The effect of hormones on ageing can leave you feeling like you’re on a rollercoaster. Menopause

The time of perimenopause can go on for 10 years or more until menopause. Oestrogen levels may swing between too high and too low with different symptoms arising.

It is not just a question of oestrogen and progesterone levels running smoothly however. Other glands and their hormones are involved too and they all have to act in concert with each other. If one hormone is down, the others have to shift to allow for the deficit.

Hot flashes put women at risk for lowered bone mineral density and lower HDL levels (the good cholesterol), atherosclerosis and depression. Too much oestrogen is bad and too little is bad!
While oestrogen is good for the brain, it is bad for the breast and can lead to thrombosis – so knowing what levels you have is important!

Hormonal imbalance can arise from multiple causes including chronic stress, nutrient deficiencies. weight gain, poor liver detoxification, food allergies and intolerances.
